Meki Hospital is located in Meki town, Dugda district, East Shewa Zone,Oromia region, 140km southeast of Addis Ababa (Finfinne). The hospital was established under the Oromia Health Bureau and started providing services on August 23, 2021 with limited staff to address the health needs of the local community. The hospital serves the population of Dugda district and surrounding districts such as Bora, Ziway Dugda, Adami Tullu, Sodo Dachi and others, with an estimated total population of over 600,000.

The hospital was founded with the aim of providing accessible and high-quality healthcare services to the local population. Over the past two and half years, it has grown to incorporate modern medical technologies, expert healthcare professionals, and a comprehensive range of medical specialties to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

Meki Hospital provides a diverse array of healthcare services, including general medical care, specialized treatments, surgical services, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, laboratory services, radiology, ophthalmic care and emergency care. The hospital’s commitment to provide quality care is evidenced through its patient-centered approach and a wide spectrum of medical, surgical, and diagnostic offerings.

The hospital actively engages with the local community by organizing health awareness campaigns, vaccination drives, and health education programs designed to promote preventive care, Curative care and address common healthcare concerns prevalent in the region. Additionally, Meki Hospital collaborates with local authorities, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders to promote health initiatives and community-centered healthcare interventions.

Within less than three years of its establishment, the hospital has not only ensured access to healthcare services but also delivered high-quality and efficient care, making it competitive at the national level. Additionally, by providing quality and efficient services, the hospital has addressed major health-related challenges in the community, preventing people from incurring unnecessary expenses in search of medical treatment elsewhere.

Currently, the services provided at Meki Hospital were widened and ranges from basic examinations to major surgical procedures. Moreover, the hospital has initiated a continuous professional development center to produce competent and skilled healthcare professionals. This, in turn, helps for further improvement the quality of services and increase patient satisfaction.

There is around 200 staff members in Meki Hospital currently and the Hospital engaged not only in healthcare but also in various voluntary community services. Furthermore, it participates in urban agriculture development as an additional income-generating activity and has also implemented a green development program that has improved the surrounding environment.

Looking ahead, Meki Hospital aims to further strengthen its capacity to provide comprehensive and advanced healthcare services, expand its medical capabilities, and remain a pivotal institution in promoting the health and wellness of the local population and neighboring communities.
